Gov't dragging its feet on state company utilization

The government is keen to keep a tight grip on state corporations, which is why the transfer of such companies to the new hyperfund for state asset utilization, officially titled Hellenic Holdings and Properties Company SA, has been allowed to drag on. The transfers are a part of the framework of the second review of the third Greek bailout program.

Visitors in Thessaloniki spent 5.5 percent more nights last year

The number of nights visitors spent in Greece's second biggest city in 2016 rose 5.56 percent from 2015, to 2.31 million last year from 2.19 million a year earlier, Thessaloniki Hotelier Association data show.

Greeks spent 6.83 percent more nights (1,226,544) and foreigners 4.16 percent more nights (1,083,073).

Thessaloniki bus workers walked off the job for the 10th day in a row on Monday, demanding three months in unpaid wages.

The workers gathered outside the offices of the Thessaloniki urban transport organization (OASTH) to protest.

In comments to the Athens-Macedonia News Agency, the head of the workers' union Dimitris Tsermenidis said employees have not been paid since July.

Greece to Discuss Migration Crisis with Neighbours at Two April Meetings

Greece will hold two meetings on migration with several of its neighbours in the next two weeks, the country's Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias has said.

The meetings, planned for April 14 and April 21-22, will take place in Thessaloniki, Greek news agency ANA-MPA quoted Kotzias as saying at a press briefing on Friday.
