ATHEX: Benchmark makes new five-month high

A universal move upwards for stocks in the Greek bourse on Monday led the benchmark to major gains and the daily turnover well above the 100-million-euro mark. The main index has now climbed to levels unseen since the end of last July, while investors are also looking forward to the listing of Athens International Airport that the government has decided.

ATHEX: Benchmark gains on a quiet day

Traders at the Greek stock market stayed on the same path of caution they have been on throughout December to date, with reduced action at Athinon Avenue and a mixed picture for stock prices on Monday.

However, despite a drop in the blue-chip and banks indexes, the benchmark managed to end up in the black for the day, albeit marginally.

Minor drop for index in October

Greek stocks edged higher for a third session in a row, taking the benchmark close to 1,200 points on Tuesday. However, that was not enough to prevent a negative result for October, which closed with monthly losses of 1.34% for the main index. That was the third consecutive month with a decline.

Market gains as buyers like blue chips

The Athens Stock Exchange bucked the negative trend observed on European markets Thursday, gaining 0.65% thanks to buying in banks and other blue chips.

The headline index ended at 1,314.31 points on turnover of 87.8 million euros, which was significantly lower than in previous sessions. Blue chips rose 0.69%, mid-caps added 0.44% and banks gained 1.20%.

ATHEX: Bourse enjoys session of solid growth

Stocks enjoyed even greater gains on Thursday, following the increase of prices on Wednesday, with banks leading the Greek bourse to significant growth once their index moved back above the 1,000-point mark. The benchmark recorded another solid advance in the face of uncertainty across the rest of the eurozone, on a rare occasion of Athinon Avenue moving autonomously.
