Istanbul to host diaspora film festival in August

The call for entries for the Diaspora International Short Film Festival, scheduled from August 27-29 in Istanbul, Turkey, opened on June 14. 

Organized by the Bosphorus Culture and Arts Foundation, the festival aims to bring a new perspective to the culture and art life not only in Turkey but also in diaspora communities in different countries.

Veteran composer Muammer Sun dies at 89

Professor Muammer Sun, a doyen composer and educator who made several contributions to the development of Contemporary Polyphonic Turkish Music, passed away on Jan. 16 at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Hospital due to multiple organ failure. He was 89.

He was taken to the hospital on the night of Jan. 15 for his treatment.

Turkey begins TV-based distance learning for school students due to pandemic

Turkey on March 23 launched TV-based distance learning for around 18 million primary, secondary and high-school students, with Education Minister Ziya Selçuk giving the first lecture as he advised families to create the necessary conditions for their children at home.

Around 900 million students not attending schools worldwide: Education minister

Turkey will start a distance education program for around 18 million students through six channels provided by the state-run Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the education minister has said, stressing that nearly 900 million students cannot go to schools worldwide and there is a need for an effective education system for children.

Almost 45 movie theaters screened the first Turkish film Miracle in Cell no. 7 which has been released on March 13 under the banner of HKC entertainment.
