Unicef head says Haiti situation nears chaos of 'Mad Max'

The U.N. children's agency chief offered a dire assessment Sunday of the chaotic situation in Haiti, saying it was "almost like a scene out of 'Mad Max,'" which depicted a violent and lawless post-apocalyptic future.

"Haiti is a horrific situation," UNICEF executive director Catherine Russell told CBS talk show "Face the Nation."

Discussions between Turkey, US on cooperation in Afghanistan ongoing: Washington

Discussions between the United States and Turkey on security cooperation in Afghanistan are ongoing, a U.S. State Department spokesman said on July 12, after Ankara offered to operate and guard the Kabul airport after the withdrawal of U.S. forces.

Spokesperson Ned Price declined to provide details on how arrangements for the airport would work.

US changes travel warnings for 114 countries, including Turkey

The U.S. State Department updated travel warnings for dozens of countries worldwide on June 8, including Turkey. 

In all, the department changed its travel advisories for 114 countries, according to a State Department statement. The majority of the revisions - 58 - were countries being upgraded from Level 4 Do Not Travel to Level 3 Reconsider Travel, including Turkey.

Russia Rattles Sabers Again: Mass Military Drills Seen as Threat to Ukraine

Russia announced the start of mass military drills, ratcheting up tensions with neighboring Ukraine amid Western concerns about the risk of renewed fighting.

More than 4,000 training exercises will be held in military districts across Russia in April, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Tuesday, in comments posted on the ministry's website.
