Rising high beyond an ancient Roman arena in Arles, a tall, twisted tower created by Frank Gehry shimmers in the sun, the latest futuristic addition to this southern French city known for its World Heritage sites.

As we drive 70 km southwest of the Bulgarian capital city of Sofia towards Pernik province, the urban Legoland paves way for a Van Gogh-esque setting. 

Blooming flowers, emeraldgreen fields, towering pine and oak trees fill our car's glass windows like vibrant watercolours. 

Belgrade Beer Fest, which opens on Wednesday evening at USCE Park in New Belgrade, offers visitors the chance to try a wide range of beers while watching live shows by a series of bands, with no entrance fee. 

More than half a million people are expected over five days at what is one of the largest beer events in south-east Europe, according to the organisers.

Archaeologists found a well preserved mummy which bears an impressive resemblance to Van Gogh’s famous self-portrait during restoration work in the church of the Assumption of Our Lady in the village of Quinto, near Zaragoza, Spain.

A Vincent Van Gogh painting fetched more than $66 million at a New York auction on May 5, the most paid for a work by the Dutch post-impressionist artist since 1998.
