The coronavirus situation in China's capital is "extremely severe", a city official warned on June 16, as 27 new infections were reported from Beijing where a new cluster has sparked a huge trace-and-test programme.    

It is alleged that the news, under the label "urgent", was published by the state-run Chinese agency Xinhua.
More than 126.000 people have been infected with coronavirus worldwide, while 4.624 have died. Cuba, Honduras and Ivory Coast have reported the first cases of infected, with Bulgaria, Ireland, Sweden and Indonesia and Greece reported the first victims.

The presence of coronavirus was determined just 30 hours after the birth of the baby, the BBC reported.
It is the youngest person diagnosed with coronavirus.
The baby's mother tested positive before she gave birth. It is unclear how the disease was transmitted - in the womb, or after birth.

Earthquake kills hundreds in China

A rescue operation is underway in China after a powerful earthquake that struck the province of Yunnan, killing at least 381 people.

In the regions affected by the earthquake more than 12,000 homes were destroyed, while 30,000 were damaged, the Chinese agency Xinhua reported, quoted by AFP.

A clash in China’s far western region of Xinjiang, home to the country’s mostly Muslim Uighur minority, left nearly 100 people dead and wounded, an exile group said July 30.
