Macedonia Also Moves to Close Western Balkan Route to Migrants
Macedonia has also moved to close its borders to migrants traveling on the so-called Western Balkan route.
No new arrival of asylum-seekers in the Gevgelija refugee transit centre has been registered for more than fifty hours, which means that this section of the Western Balkan route has been practically closed.
Kosovo Exports Register Meagre Growth in 2015
Exports from Kosovo grew by just 0.23 per cent in 2015, accounting for a total export income of 325.3 million euros, according to the latest report on foreign trade by the country's statistical agency.
Industrial goods, mainly raw metals, represented the country's leading exports at around 45 per cent of the total amount.

Albania Aims to Open EU Talks this Year
Albanian officials hope the country can open accession talks with the European Union by the end of this year, once parliament has adopted a package of EU-mandated judicial reforms.

Austrian newspaper Der Standard revealed that European leaders are planning to announce the closing of the Western Balkan route at European Summit to be held on Monday.

The decision taken on Wednesday does not target everyone. "Strategic investors" must be able to stump up at least 50 million euros for a touristic project.

Heroin Crossing Balkans to Europe, US Report
The latest annual report by the US State Department's International Strategy for Narcotics Control says drugs traffickers are using Albania, Montenegro, Kosovo, Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia to transport heroin from Afghanistan and Central Asia to Western Europe.
