Bulgarian migrants working in Turkey sent some USD 830 M (EUR 732 M) back home in 2014, much more than the sum flowing from the next "top 11" countries in the list combined, data from the TIME magazine shows.

The amount of roughly BGN 1.430 B is equal to about 1.7% of the country's GDP.  

Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban has proposed that the European Union give EUR 3B to Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan to help halt the flow of Syrian migrants from camps in those countries, newswires reported.

Disturbing footage emerged of the way migrants are being treated inside Hungary's main refugee camp on the border with Serbia.

The images "showing families fed like animals in a pen" were shot secretly by an Austrian volunteer who visited the Roszke camp on Wednesday.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker speaking at Strasbourg Wednesday called on EU member states to receive a portion of the refugees currently in Greece, Italy and Hungary, by presenting a proposal with the number he believed should be relocated to each country. Delivering on the European Agenda on Migrations from May, the European Commission is putting forward a comprehensive package of proposals which will help address the refugee crisis that EU Member States and neighbouring countries are facing, including by tackling the root causes making people seek refuge in Europe.

According to the latest estimates of Eurostat, which were released on Tuesday, the GDP of Bulgaria increased by 0.5 % in the second quarter compared to the first quarter of 2015.

This is slightly above the average GDP of the EU, which increased by 0.4 % compared to the previous quarter.

The European Commission said on Tuesday it has allocated EUR 4M in emergency assistance to Hungary to help the country cope with the increased migrant influx across its border with Serbia.
