Azeri gas pipeline to start pumping gas by 2020
The Southern Gas Corridor will start pumping gas from the Caspian Sea to Europe by 2020, its backers said on Thursday, despite the risk of delays to this option for reducing dependence on Russia.
Politicians and ministers meeting in Baku backed the $40 billion, 3,500-kilometer chain of pipelines, a step toward curbing Russia's one-third share of Europe's natural gas market.

The 1992 Khojaly massacre in Nagorno-Karabakh was a "crime against humanity," Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated on Feb. 22.
"We have never forgotten Khojaly and we will [never] forget it," Çavuşoğlu told the Khojaly Genocide, Crimes Against Humanity and Terrorism conference in the capital Ankara.

Azeri president appoints wife as first-vice president
Azerbaijani President İlham Aliyev has appointed his wife, Mihriban Aliyeva, to the first vice-president post, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Feb. 21.
The Azerbaijani Presidency said in a statement that Aliyeva was appointed to the first-vice presidential post according to the 103rd Article of the Azerbaijani constitution.
Five Azerbaijanis among eight people killed in bus accident in Turkey's east
Eight people, five of whom were Azerbaijani, were killed and 28 others were injured in a bus accident that occurred in the eastern province of Iğdır early on Feb. 20, Doğan News Agency has reported.
Two passenger buses collided at the 20th kilometer of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan highway near the Dilucu border gate with Azerbaijan's autonomous republic of Nakhchivan.

Turkish PM Yıldırım meets German chancellor, Azerbaijani president
Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has held talks with the German chancellor and Azerbaijani president in Munich on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Feb. 18.
Yıldırım first met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Feb. 18, for a breakfast meeting in Munich.
While the meeting was closed to the press, it lasted around 50 minutes.
