Turkish PM rules out removing secularism from constitution
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu has ruled out any considerations of removing secularism from the constitution following Parliamentary Speaker ?smail Kahraman's remarks on the issue.
"The state's characteristics are not an issue of debate for us. The principle of secularism will stay in the new constitution," Davuto?lu said in a party meeting on April 27.
Turkish press still 'not free,' says Freedom House
Turkey continued to be defined as "not free" in U.S.-based think tank Freedom House's 2016 report on press freedom, with its score going up six points and thus signifying a "deteriorating" trend.
Turkey is among the countries that "suffered the largest declines" over 2015, along with Bangladesh, Burundi, France, Serbia, Yemen, Egypt, Macedonia, and Zimbabwe.

UAE to appoint ambassador to Turkey
