A research published in the journal eLife lists the tallest people by country. The research revealed that over the past 100 years humans have become taller to their ancestors thanks to better nutrition and health, but the amount of height gain varies from country to country. Authors found that people from central and southern Europe, as well as East Asia, grew taller in the last 100 years.

Eurozone GDP up by 1.7%, while Greece stuck in recession

The average growth rate in Eurozone countries stood at 1.7% in the first quarter of 2017, according to Eurostat’s initial estimates, while it was calculated at 2% for the EU28 area. This is in contract to the Greek economy, which was the only country that registered a drop in growth for the sam3e period.

EU says some members breach migrant relocation obligations

The EU plan to distribute 160,000 refugees "among EU partners" by September is "likely to result in less than 40,000 people finding new homes."

EU Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos said on Tuesday that more than 18,000 migrants have been relocated and that 12,500 people in Greece and some 4,000 in Italy are eligible to go, Beta reported, quoting AP.

Probe launched into robbery at Aghios Savvas Hospital

Police in Athens launched an investigation Monday into the theft of medical equipment worth half a million euros from the Aghios Savvas Hospital.

According to hospital officials, the robbery occurred between 2.30 and 6 a.m. on Monday at the hospitals' gastroenterology department, and included, among others, the theft of seven endoscopes - instruments used to examine internal organs.

Flights came to Greece with more seats filled last year

Airline seat occupancy on flights to Greece posted a 0.9 percentage point increase last year according to data processed by the Institute of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE).

Planes into Greece were 80 percent full in 2016 against 79.1 percent in 2015, while the number of seats available came to 23 million against 21.65 million in 2015.

Q1 brought a 0.5 percent contraction

Greek economy has paid a heavy price for the delay in the completion of the second review of the country's third bailout and this is reflected in the official data for first-quarter gross domestic product, which contracted 0.5 percent year-on-year according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
