Iraq's Maliki says will not quit without court ruling
Iraq's caretaker premier Nuri al-Maliki said Wednesday it will take a court ruling for him to leave power, defying the president's decision to task a rival with forming a government.
"I confirm that the government will continue and there will not be a replacement for it without a decision from the federal court," Maliki said in his televised weekly address.
France to deliver arms to Kurds in Iraq: Hollande
France will deliver weapons to Kurdish forces fighting Islamic extremists in Iraq, President Francois Hollande announced on Aug. 13.
"In order to respond to the urgent need expressed by the Kurdistan regional authorities, the president has decided, in agreement with Baghdad, to deliver arms in the coming hours," Hollande's office said in a statement.

Unexpected drop in eurozone output clouds recovery hopes further

Eurozone industrial production contracted unexpectedly for a second month in a row in June, further denting hopes of a stronger recovery as the bloc starts to take the hit from conflict in Iraq, Ukraine and Gaza, data showed on Wednesday.

Several shops in Basmane, an Ä°zmir neighborhood where illegal refugees from Iraq, Somalia and Syria reside, have included life vests and similar equipment into their inventory, as they attempt to reach Greece.
Locals say the people buying the life vests or similar equipment are refugees who mainly live in Basmane and aim to reach Europe through Greece.
