Turkish FM's Latin America tour 'to boost ties'

Turkey's ambassador to Argentina on Jan. 30 hailed the political and economic importance of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu's four-nation South American tour this week.        

Meral Barlas said Argentina has the third-biggest economy in South America and stressed the importance of numerous areas where Turkey can have an economic relationship with Latin America.        

Toyota loses top-selling automaker crown in 2016

Toyota lost its crown as the world's top-selling automaker in 2016, company figures showed on Jan. 30, with the Japanese giant overtaken by Volkswagen as the industry prepares for an uncertain trade environment under U.S. President Donald Trump.

The German automaker moved back into the top spot despite being hit by a massive emissions cheating scandal that rocked its reputation.

Trump Withdraws US From TPP

BELGRADE - US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that withdraws the United States from the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal.

The move on January 23 is actually a formality since the controversial TPP agreement had not yet been approved by the Senate.

IMF warns wave of US protectionism would offset any stimulus gains

Protectionist policies from the new U.S. administration of President Donald Trump will probably have a negative impact on the economy, overshadowing any positive gains from economic stimulus measures, the head of the IMF said on Jan. 20. 

"Overall, it probably won't be net positive," IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde told a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
