Moldova Charges Seven with Plotting Top Politician's Murder
Moldova's organised crime prosecutors announced on Wednesday that they will prosecute seven people, including a well-known Moldovan fugitive who has been wanted by Interpol since 1998, for involvement in a plot to assassinate Vladimir Plahotniuc, the head of the ruling Democratic Party and also one of the country's richest and most powerful politicians.
Moldova Suspends President to Appoint Defence Minister
Moldova's government appointed a new defence minister on Tuesday after a lengthy row over the post between the pro-European, Democratic Party-led cabinet and pro-Russian President Igor Dodon.
Eugen Sturza, 32, was sworn in at a ceremony at the presidential palace led by parliament speaker Andrian Candu, acting as interim president while Dodon was briefly suspended.
Moldova Seeks Russian Troop Withdrawal from Transnistria
The UN General Assembly is to discuss by the end of October Chisinau's request for Moscow's forces to leave Transnistria, a pro-Russian breakaway area of eastern Moldova, as the Russian troops continue manoeuvres in the separatist region.
Moldovan Constitutional Court Backs President's Suspension
Moldova's Constitutional Court said in its decision on Tuesday there are "circumstances justifying the initiation by the Parliament of the procedure of suspension of the president", opening the door for the suspension of Dodon.
The Constitutional Court deemed that his failure to approve the appointment of a new defence minister meant he had fallen short of his constitutional duties.

A group of ruling Liberal Democrat MPs plan to amend Moldova's constitution so that Romanian becomes the official language instead of Moldovan, as the law currently states.
The Liberal Democrats last Thursday said that they had collected the 34 signatures needed to submit the draft to the Constitutional Court for approval.

Moldova Faces Dilemma After EU Cuts Funds
Moldova risks more turmoil before legislative elections scheduled for spring 2018 after the European Union announced that it will not be transferring the final tranche of funds worth 28 million euros to support justice reforms in the country.
The EU delegation in Moldova said on Wednesday that the authorities had not fulfilled the conditions for receiving the money.

Putin Vows to Help Moldova Solve Transnistria

Greece has the highest proportion of obese boys in Europe (16.7% of the population), while Malta has the most obese girls (11.3%), according to a new international study published in the medical journal “The Lancet” , on occasion of World Obesity Day on 11 October.
Moldova has the smallest obesity rates in Europe (3.2% of the population) and 5% in boys .
