US Vice President Discusses Romanian Shale Gas, Defense Budget

Shale gas and military expenditures, alongside the Ukraine crisis, were the main issues in meetings of US Vice President Joe Biden with Romanian leaders.

"We discussed shale gas [with Vice President Biden]. It is quite clear that the US is encouraging such exploitation," AGERPRES agency quoted Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta as saying.

Russian Train Collision Death Toll Climbs to 6

The death toll from Tuesday's train collision near Moscow has climbed to 6, while 25 people remain in hospital.

A freight train derailed and collided into a passenger train between Naro-Fominsk and Bekasovo, on the Kiev-bound railway, around 1 pm Moscow time Tuesday. Most of the victims were citizens of Moldova, RIA Novosti revealed. Among the injured were 3 children.

Rasmussen: Russia Will Increase Pressure on Moldova, Georgia

Russia's military actions in Ukraine have changed the security situation in Europe dramatically, according to the Secretary General of NATO Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

In an interview with the Romanian on Thursday, Rasmussen said that he expected a NATO summit in September to discuss long term measures to enhance the collective defense of member countries.

Russian Leader’s Bomber Threat Nettles Romania

Romania has demanded that Russia clarify its position after a Russian deputy prime minister said he would return to Romanian airspace – to which he had been denied access - in a bomber plane.

More Smuggled Cigarettes Sold in Romania

The percentage of cigarettes on sale in Romania that have been smuggled into the country rose slightly to 15.8 per cent in March, up 0.1 percentage point compared to the previous month, market sources said.

Most smuggled cigarettes come from neighboring Moldova and Ukraine, according to a report from Novel Research polling company.
