In Brussels Tuesday, U.K. and EU negotiators will thrash out a format for the next round of Brexit talks ahead of a December meeting of the European Council, when EU leaders will decide if "sufficient progress" has been made to warrant moving to the next stage.

Britain's talks on exiting the European Union cannot progress, as London wishes, to trade relations until it give more clarity on what will happen at its border with Ireland, Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney said on Friday, qupted by Reuters.

After defeating Gibraltar 4-0 on Tuesday night, something expected, Greece will go into next Tuesday’s playoff draw in an effort to earn a spot in the 2018 Russian World Cup finals. The Greek side, along with Northern Ireland, Sweden, Republic of Ireland are the unseeded teams and will not face each other, but will meet with one of Switzerland, Italy, Croatia or Denmark.

Ireland dismissed British proposals for the Irish border after Brexit as unconvincing on Friday, a day after the EU chief negotiator said they amounted to a demand the bloc suspend its laws for Britain, reported Reuters. 

But British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, speaking at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Tallinn, said a solution was "not beyond the wit of man".

European Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker warned again on Aug. 29 that Britain must first agree its divorce terms with the European Union before any discussion of post-Brexit ties can begin.

Much of the future border arrangements between Northern Ireland and Ireland can be solved before Brexit talks enter the next phase, Ireland's foreign minister said, urging Britain to be realistic in negotiating terms to leave the European Union.

The European Union should not "drag its feet" in negotiating Brexit, a British government source said on Aug. 27 ahead of a fresh round of UK-EU divorce talks in Brussels this week.

"Both sides must be flexible and willing to compromise when it comes to solving areas where we disagree," the source said.
