World women's cinema comes to Ankara

The 18th Flying Broom International Women?s Films Festival will be held this year between May 8 and 18.

The festival program was launched at a meeting held at Ku?ulu Park in the Turkish capital. The festival, which will host a number of workshops, forums and panel discussions, has the theme ?The States of 18,? in its 18th year. 

Nepal 7.8R Quake: Hundreds dead and trapped in the rubble (photos)

An earthquake measuring 7.8 Richter shook Nepal between the capital Kathmandu and the city of Pokhara in tremors felt as far as Pakistan, Bangladesh and India. A national police spokesman said that 700 people had been killed across the country, rescuers are digging through the rubble of collapsed buildings trying to reach survivors, estimated to number hundreds.

US drone strike on Al-Qaeda kills two hostages, Obama takes responsibility

U.S. President Barack Obama said April 23 he takes "full responsibility" for a U.S. counterterrorism mission that inadvertently killed an American and an Italian held hostage by al-Qaeda. He defended the legality of the January drone strike against an al-Qaeda compound and said there had been no information suggesting the hostages were at that location.

Dignitaries to flock to Gallipoli anniversary

Turkey will host leaders from all corners of the world when it holds commemorations for the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli April 24-25.

The heads of state for 20 nations will be in attendance, while two parliament speakers, three vice presidents, five prime ministers and around 20 ministers will also attend the ceremonies.
