Ionita (MAE) requests U.S. Congress support for including Romania in Visa Waiver programme
Secretary of State for Strategic Affairs Daniel Ionita on Sunday received a delegation of Republican and Democrat representatives of the U.S. Congress, headed by Senator James Inhofe, on which occasion the Romanian dignitary requested their support for the inclusion of Romania in the Visa Waiver programme.

Socol: Gov't savings in the first three months permit a reduction of VAT to 20pct
Government's savings in the national budget over the first three months of the year will permit a reduction to 20 per cent, from a current 24 per cent, in the Value-Added Tax (VAT) or a 9-per-cent reduced VAT in the months to come, according to governmental macroeconomic adviser Cristian Socol.

Bulgaria Needs New Body to Fight Graft Among Politicians - Audit Office Chief
The newly appointed Chairman of Bulgaria's National Audit Office Tsvetan Tsvetkov has backed a suggestion to set up a new body specifically charged with looking into the wealth of politicians.
In an interview with BNR radio Tsvetkov said on Sunday a change to existing legislation might be needed to enable inspection of the sources of funds and properties owned by politicians.

Earthquake Jolts Romania's Vrancea, Tremor Felt in Bulgaria's Ruse
An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale has been registered in Romania's Vrancea region early on Sunday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The tremor, with an epicenter 135 km. north of Romania's capital Bucharest, was also felt on the upper floors of high buildings in Bulgaria's Danube city of Ruse.

Vreni, the first avalanche rescue dog certified in Romania
The city of Caransebes can boast an avalanche response team complete with the first avalanche rescue dog to have earned his certification in Romania. It's actually a female Belgian Malinois, "her name is Vreni, and she's 20 months old. This is the first dog born, trained, tested and certified in Romania for avalanche search and rescue.
