Situation in Afghanistan discussed by EU foreign ministers
The situation in Afghanistan constituted the main topic of discussions during the informal meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of EU member-states, where Romania was represented by Minister Bogdan Aurescu, meeting that took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Ljubljana – The Slovenian police have teamed up with Europol and police forces from the Western Balkans for a campaign against online abuse of children and youths in the region, which starts this week.
291 new coronavirus cases reported for Sunday, five deaths
Ljubljana – Slovenia recorded another 291 coronavirus cases on Sunday, nine more than the same day a week ago. Hospital figures remained stable with Covid tracker site showing another five people died.
The National Institute of Public Health estimates there are now 13,211 active cases in the country.
Vaccine uptake accelerates as Covid pass becomes mandatory
Ljubljana – The Covid pass mandate introduced last week has led to a surge in vaccination. Almost 84,000 shots were administered last week, the highest weekly figure since early June, show data from the national vaccination registry.
Finance expects govt action on energy prices
Ljubljana – Gas and electricity prices are likely to increase due to supply constraints and huge demand. Some countries have already taken action to bring down prices, Slovenia could follow suit, business daily Finance argues in Monday’s commentary.

Mobile data usage and number of texts sent increase y/y
Ljubljana – Slovenian mobile network users sent almost 574 million SMS messages in the second quarter of 2021, an increase of 4% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, mobile broadband users downloaded more than 56 million gigabytes of data, which is 26% more than last year.
President Pahor, Minister Logar attending UN General Assembly
New York – A Slovenian delegation led by President Borut Pahor, who will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Anže Logar, will attend the United Nations General Assembly this week. The high-level general debate starts on Tuesday an Pahor will deliver his address on Friday.
Slovenia win silver at European Volleyball Championship
Katowice – Slovenia have the second consecutive silver at the European Volleyball Championship after losing to Italy 2:3 in Sunday’s final.
With silver medals from the 2015 and 2019 tournaments Slovenia were hoping to take it one step further this time, but Italy proved too strong in a game of equals.
Gender pay gap in Slovenia at 2.2% in 2020
Ljubljana – The pay gap between men and women in Slovenia narrowed slightly in 2020, by 3.6 points annually to 2.2%, preliminary figures released by the Statistics Office show. The gap in the private sector stood at 6.5% and at 10.7% in the public sector.
Average monthly net pay in the country increased by 5.4% to EUR 1,252 in 2020 over 2019.

545 new coronavirus cases confirmed, hospital figures flat
Ljubljana – Slovenia confirmed 545 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, down slightly on the week before. Hospital numbers remained flat.
The latest figure bring the 14-day case notification rate per 100,000 population to 621 and the seven-day average of new daily cases stands at 1,038, according to the National Institute of Public Health.
