Bled Strategic Forum to focus on solidarity for global security
The Bled Strategic Forum (BSF), Slovenia's prime foreign policy event, will be held on 28 and 29 August for the 18th year. Running under the title Solidarity for Global Security, it will explore ways of ensuring global security by working together.
The organisers announced the theme of the international conference on 28 July, but the names of the participants are yet to be revealed.
North Adriatic Hydrogen Valley ready for launch
The North Adriatic Hydrogen Valley will be launched in September after the project's lead partner, Slovenia's power holding HSE, signed a contract on EU funding with the Clean Hydrogen Partnership.
HSE signed the contract for the six-year project last week on behalf of the consortium of 34 partners from Slovenia, Croatia and Italy's Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Slovenia on track to eradicate hepatitis C
Slovenia is on track to eradicate hepatitis C. A projection made in collaboration with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control shows the country has the lowest hepatitis C virus (HCV) incidence rate in the EU.

Foreign visitors drive tourism growth
Slovenia's tourist destinations attracted 2.47 million visitors in the first half of the year in what is a a 6%-growth year-on-year. Local visitor numbers fell sharply, which was offset with a 40% jump in foreign arrivals.

No end to destructive thunderstorms
Slovenia has seen yet another wave of destructive thunderstorms as severe winds, large hail and torrential rains have been pummelling the country almost non-stop for the past two weeks. Damage is still being assessed but reports say it will exceed the €420 million caused in the devastating ice storm in 2014.

The first European Summer School on Artificial Intelligence (ESSAI) opened in Ljubljana on 24 July, featuring courses and lectures by 60 world-renowned experts. The event aims to acquaint young researchers with the latest advances in the field and stimulate AI development in Slovenia.

Just to reiterate that last week in Croatia, a storm claimed four lives and caused enormous damage to buildings, infrastructure and cars. After that, a terrible storm followed in Serbia, and the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute of Serbia issued a new warning today.
Music featuring Divje Babe flute nominated for Emmy
The theme music for an episode of a British-US nature documentary on dinosaurs that also features sounds made by a replica of a Neanderthal flute found in Slovenia has been nominated for the 2023 Primetime Emmy Awards. One of the composers nominated is Slovenian Anže Rozman.
