Hopeful signs from Germany in tourism
Europe's top Turkish tour operator Bentour brought together the owners and staff of 400 tourism agencies from Switzerland, Germany and Austria at a three-day event in the southern tourism hub Antalya.
Considering the serious decline this year in the number of tourists visiting Turkey, it was a particularly important meeting, during which projections for 2017 were discussed.

Merkel says situation in Aleppo is a 'disgrace' for West
It is a "disgrace" that the international community has been unable to alleviate the suffering in Syria's besieged city of Aleppo, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Dec. 6, one day after Russia and China vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution calling for a seven-day cease-fire in the city.

EU banks at risk from bad loans, low profit: Regulator
The greatest risks facing European Union banks are high levels of bad loans and lower profitability, the bloc's financial regulator said in a report on Dec. 2.

A report issued by a European Union agency says that about 80 percent of almost 34,000 Roma, or Gypsies, surveyed in nine EU nations live below the poverty level.
The report also says that every third Roma child goes to bed hungry at least once a month, while 50 percent between 6 and 24 do not attend school.
