Thailand drops registration for visitors
Thailand is lifting a pre-arrival registration requirement for foreign visitors that was seen as onerous and a drag on the recovery for its ailing tourism industry.
The government's COVID-19 center also said on June 17 that an outdoor mask mandate would be dropped as of July 1 except in crowded venues.
The mask mandate was not controversial in Thailand and generally obeyed.

Endangered giant turtles released on Turtle Day
Hundreds of critically endangered baby giant turtles were released into Cambodia's Mekong River to mark World Turtle Day on May 23.
Cantor's giant softshell turtles have all but vanished across their former territory in Vietnam and Thailand thanks to poaching and illegal trade, and were only rediscovered in the Southeast Asian country in 2007.

A monkey with ghostly white circles around its eyes is among 224 new species listed in the World Wildlife Fund's latest update on the greater Mekong region.
The conservation group's report, released on Jan. 26, highlights the need to protect the rich biodiversity and habitats in the region, which includes Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar.

Local man prepares for world tour with caravan
A 30-year-old Turkish man from the Black Sea province of Samsun is preparing for a world tour with a caravan he has converted from a clunker bus.
"The first time I saw the bus, I said, 'It should be my home.' It was like the school buses I saw in Hollywood movies," Kadir Mert, a software specialist and paragliding tutor, told daily Milliyet on Dec. 8.
