Top diplomat Çavuşoğlu discusses E Med with counterparts

Turkey's foreign minister held phone conversations with his Hungarian, Lithuanian and Bulgarian counterparts on Aug. 13, according to a source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto discussed recent matters related to the Eastern Mediterranean.

France sends two fighter jets, frigate to eastern Med amid tensions with Turkey

France will send two Rafale fighter jets and the naval frigate "Lafayette" to the eastern Mediterranean as part of plans to increase its military presence in the region, the armed forces ministry said on Thursday, amid signs of tension with Turkey.

Turkey, Libya ink deal to enhance trade, economic ties

Turkey and Libya signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost trade and economic ties, the Turkish trade minister said on Aug. 13. 

The deal will lay the groundwork for resolving ongoing issues between Turkish firms and Libyan employers, setting new investments and undertaking new projects, Ruhsar Pekcan said at a meeting held in Turkey's capital Ankara.

PM sends twofold message to Turkey

With the Turkish Oruc Reis research vessel in the Greek continental shelf and the fleets of both countries in a tense standoff, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a twofold message to Turkey on Wednesday stating that Greece is willing to have an honest dialogue, but will not back way from any challenge.

Civil Aviation extends flight restrictions through Aug. 31

A new notice to airmen issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Wednesday extends travel bans with Balkan and European countries through August 31, to protect passengers and residents of Greece from a rise in new coronavirus cases.

According to the notice:

- Flights between Greece and Turkey remain suspended to August 31 (midnight).

PM thanks Macron for support

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis thanked French President Emmanuel Macron for his support, after the latter announced late Wednesday that France would increase its military presence in the eastern Mediterranean.

Mitsotakis described Macron as "a true friend of Greece" and an "ardent defender of European values and international law."

Dendias visits Israel on Thursday

Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias will visit Israel on Thursday discuss developments in the East Mediterranean in meetings with the prime minister and his Israeli counterpart.

Dendias is expected to focus on Turkey's activities in the region, as well as Greek-Israeli collaboration.

Turkey's top military officials visit Azerbaijan to observe drills

Turkey's Defense Minister Hulusi Akar on Aug. 13 visited Azerbaijan to observe joint military exercises.

He was accompanied by a delegation comprising army chief Gen. Yaşar Güler and top naval, land and air forces commanders.

The military exercises will also be attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Bollywood star Aamir Khan meets fans in Turkey

Aamir Khan, the world-renowned movie star from India, gathered with his fans in southeastern Turkey on Aug. 12.

Khan stopped shooting his movie Laal Singh Chaddha, an adaption of the 1994 classic Forrest Gump due to the novel coronavirus outbreak in India, and started looking for alternative locations in Turkey to shoot his movie.
