Turkish PM warns Qatar issue may turn to global problem

Turkish prime minister said on June 11 that Qatar crisis could turn into a global problem if the tension goes up.

"A new problem area that may be created here [in Qatar] would not be limited inside the region," Binali Yıldırım addressed at a fast-breaking dinner with business figures at Dolmabahçe Prime Ministry Office in Istanbul.     

Eritrea rejects cutting ties with Qatar

Eritrea on June 9 declined a request by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to cut diplomatic ties with Qatar.  
      
 The African nation's foreign ministry said in a written statement it "rejected" the demand to cut ties "with brother Doha".  
     
It said Eritrea had "strong ties with the brother people of Qatar," and it was "impossible to cut ties".

Barcelona fans in Saudi Arabia could be punished with up to 15 years in prison for wearing their team's colours. Barca shirts sporting the Qatar Airways sponsorship logo are said to have been outlawed amid tensions in the Persian Gulf region over alleged links between extremist groups and Qatar.

Turkish products hit shelves as blockade remains in Qatar

Turkish products are meeting high demand in stores across Qatar, which is facing an economic blockade from fellow Arab countries.

On June 5, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain cut diplomatic ties with Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism.

Saudi Arabia has also closed its land borders with Qatar, geographically isolating the tiny Gulf state.

US urges Saudi allies to ease Qatar blockade

The United States urged Saudi Arabia and its regional allies on June 9 to ease their blockade of Qatar, warning it is harming the regional struggle against extremism.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Qatar must do more to crack down on support for terrorism but that the crisis must not disrupt action against the Islamic State group.
