Culture Day

Ljubljana – Culture Day, a public holiday marking the anniversary of the death of poet France Prešeren (1800-1849), will be celebrated in Slovenia on Tuesday in a limited form, as there will be no traditional event at Prešeren’s birth house in Vrba, and the recital of Prešeren’s poetry will be broadcast on the radio.

Ljubljana/Kranj/Vrba – Despite restrictions limiting gatherings and the cancellation of several long-standing events, Slovenians flocked to cultural institutions and points of interest on Tuesday to celebrate Culture Day, a public holiday in memory of the great Romantic poet France Prešeren.

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor hosted the annual Culture Day event in Presidential Palace on Monday, receiving this year’s Prešeren Prize and Prešeren Fund Prize recipients. Pahor called for culture of dialogue. Author Feri Lainšček, one of the laureates, meanwhile highlighted the role Slovenian culture played in the country’s independence efforts.

The Bucharest National Opera (ONB) will broadcast online, on Friday, on the National Culture Day, six shows signed by Romanian composers within the project titled #DordeONB, from the Opera online series.

Culture Minister Bogdan Gheorghiu said on Wednesday that the duty of the public institutions and administrations is to make sure that the names of those who made history and sketched up Romania's national destiny will not be forgotten by children, adding that a Romania of culture is a country of partnerships, increased tolerance and acceptance.

A festive session organised at the Romanian Athenaeum in the presence of President Klaus Iohannis, exhibition mountings, concerts, film screenings, workshops dedicated to children or guided tours are only a few of the events dedicated to the National Culture Day, as scheduled to unfold on Tuesday in Bucharest.

BELGRADE/MOSCOW - Belgrade Days - a three-day event that will feature a business day, a culture day and a sports day - is to be held in Moscow on May 25-27.

Serbian and Russian businesspeople will meet on the opening day. Musician and composer Goran Bregovic will perform a concert on the culture day, with director Emir Kusturica to screen films.

Prime Minister Victor Ponta said on the occasion of the National Culture Day, that the main mission in a European Romania is to promote "all forms of cultural expression."

A solemn session dedicated to the National Culture Day will be hosted on Thursday by the Auditorium of the Romanian Academy, informs the press office of this forum in a release to AGERPRES.
