Polish Independence Day marked

BELGRADE - The Polish embassy in Belgrade hosted a reception on Wednesday to mark the country's Independence Day, which commemorates the re-establishment of Poland's statehood on November 11, 1918.

Prior to World War II, Independence Day was only celebrated two times, in 1937 and 1938. It was abolished during Communist rule, becoming an official holiday again in 1989.

Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta and the accompanying official delegation paying a visit to the neighbouring Republic of Moldova on the occasion of Moldova's Independence Day celebrated on Aug. 27 laid bunches of flowers at the monument of medieval ruler Stephen the Great and Holy in the Moldovan capital on Wednesday.

Ukraine's Poroshenko Vows EUR 2.2 B for Arms on Independence Day

Ukrainan President Petro Poroshenko promised that over EUR 2.2 B are to be set aside for rearmament as the country is celebrating its Independence Day.

At the military parade marking the anniversary he explained the money would be allocated between 2015 and 2017.

It will be mostly spent on fighter jets, helicopters, ships, and cutters.
