Statehood Day marked in Serbia

BELGRADE -- Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic decorated a large number of domestic and foreign individuals and institutions on the occasion of Serbia's Statehood Day.

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - Marko Djuric, director of the Serbian government's Office for Kosovo-Metohija, said on Sunday that the current and all future governments of Serbia will stand by its people in the southern province and Serbian Statehood Day will be marked in Kosovo-Metohija.

BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic decorated a large number of individuals and institutions from the country and abroad on the occasion of Serbia's Statehood Day on Sunday.

BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic received on Wednesday a letter by US President Barack Obama who extended the best wishes to the president and the people of Serbia on the occasion of the country's Statehood Day, February 15, and welcomed Serbia's OSCE Chairmanship.

OPLENAC - Serbia's Prime Minister Ivica Dacic laid a wreath on Sunday at the tomb of the leader of the First Serbian Uprising Karadjordje Petrovic at the Church of St George in Oplenac and said that now was not the time to experiment with stathood, but to by united.

"That is why it is important to have political and economic unity in the country," he told reporters.

BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic hosted a reception on February 15 to mark Statehood Day and said at the event that everybody in Serbia should be united and do all they can for the survival and progress of their people.

BELGRADE - The Archive of Serbia opened an exhibition titled 'First World War in Archive of Serbia documents' on Friday as part of observation of Serbia’s Statehood Day, by which it officially begun celebrations of 100 years since the outbreak of the Great War.

BELGRADE - Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik sent his greetings to Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Friday for Serbia's Statehood Day, saying that Serbia had strengthened its position domestically and internationally by moving forward with its EU integration.

BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic will deliver medals to deserving individuals and institutions on Saturday, to mark the Statehood Day, including professor Itsuko Teruoka from Japan who will receive a gold medal for her exceptional engagement in humanitarian activities and Stella Jatras of the U.S.

BELGRADE – Sretenje, Serbia’ s Statehood Day and national holiday celebrated in memory of the First Serbian Uprising and enactment of the first Serbian constitution, will be marked by a series of manifestations in Belgrade and at Oplenac Hill in Topola this year.
