Veteran's Day

The US Embassy in Athens and its consular section, the US Consulate General in Thessaloniki and all US government offices in Greece will be closed on Friday, November 10, in observance of Veterans Day.

Veterans Day, a US federal holiday, honors the country's military veterans.

President Klaus Iohannis sent a message on November 11, War Zone Veterans Day, in which he hails the country's troops participating in foreign missions as genuine ambassadors of Romania. "The celebration of War Zone Veterans Day gives us the opportunity to extend our gratitude to the troops returning from war zones and to pay homage to the fallen heroes servicing under Romania's banner.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has received war veterans at the presidential complex in the capital Ankara, on Sept. 19, the national Veterans Day.

BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Friday laid a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Mt Avala near Belgrade in commemoration of the WWI Armistice Day.

Nikolic was accompanied by Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic and the Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff, General Ljubisa Dikovic.

BELGRADE -- A ceremonial artillery salute was fired from the Sava terrace of the Belgrade Fortress on Monday, commemorating World War I Armistice Day, November 11.

Members of the Guard of the Serbian Armed Forces fired a 10-volley salute from six artillery weapons.

BELGRADE - Serbia marks the World War I Armistice Day as its national holiday on Tuesday. The day commemorates Germany's capitulation that led to the cessation of WWI hostilities. The capitulation was signed in a railway carriage in Compiegne, France, on November 11, 1918 at 11:00 a.m.
