Edi Rama's Socialists win in Albania

The ruling Socialist Party in Albania has won the parliamentary elections and will have between 45 and 49 percent of the vote.

According to exit polls conducted by the Italian agency IPR Marketing, the opposition Democratic Party will have up to 34 percent of the votes.

FYROM (Macedonia) has accused neighboring Albania of interfering in its domestic affairs, saying that Tirana is trying to influence the Balkan country's ethnic Albanian minority, RFE/RL reporting.

Albania Debates Recruiting Volunteers to Aid Police

The draft law on recruiting unpaid volunteers to work alongside Albania's police force and assist them in some of their duties is expected to be debated by MPs in parliament by the end of this week.

"The voluntary police officer is a volunteer who offers citizens and the state police help with enforcing the law, preventing crime and dealing with civil emergency," the draft says.

Kosovo, Albania Condemn Macedonian President's Veto

Political leaders in Albania and Kosovo have condemned the decision on Wednesday by Macedonia President Gjorje Ivanov to refuse the offer of a mandate to the Social Democrat leader Zoran Zaev because of his alliance with Macedonia's ethnic Albanian parties.
