Balkan Athletes Hunger for Glory at Olympics Marred by COVID-19

As Friday's opening ceremony for the XXXII Olympic Games in Tokyo looms, Balkan athletes are bracing for the quest to bring home glory with medals round their neck.

The Olympic Games in Tokyo starting this Friday were scheduled to be held in 2020 but had to be postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Turkey's opponents in 2022 World Cup quals unveiled

The Turkish National Football Team's opponents in the European Qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup were revealed on Dec. 7. 

Turkey will play against the Netherlands, Norway, Montenegro, Latvia and Gibraltar in the European Qualifiers Group G.

The draw was held in Zurich, Switzerland via videoconference amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Bora Stankovic passed away

Stankovic is one of the founders of BC Red Star, a Yugoslav national team player and the man who scored the first basketball points in the World Cup history.
Stankovic played for Red Star, Zeleznicar and Partizan during his playing career from 1946 to 1953, while he also served as coach in the BC Partizan.

Two second-half goals by Petros Mantalos and Kostas Galanopoulos saw Greece come from behind and beat Finland 2-1 in Athens as it completed its failed campaign at the Euro 2020 qualifiers with three wins in a row.

Bosnian Football Hit by Match-Fixing Arrests

Twelve people were arrested in Bosnia on Monday on suspicion of fixing the results of football matches in the top two tiers of the Bosnian championship, a spokesman for the Bosnian State Investigation and Protection Agency, SIPA, told BIRN.

Serbian Basketball Players Barred from Entering Kosovo

Kosovo police on Tuesday stopped the players and management of Serbian basketball club Partizan from entering the country, where they planned to support Kosovo Serbs protesting against Pristina's recent tax hike on Serbian imports.

Serbian media reported that Partizan were planning to play a friendly match with Trepca basketball club from the mostly-Serb area of northern Kosovo.
