Free Chinese Cinema Festival to Take Place in Sofia
The Festival of Contemporary Chinese Cinema will take place in Bulgaria's capital between 6 and 13 February.
Everyone interested in the Chinese culture and arts will have the opportunity to watch all nine movies for free. The predominant genre of the selection is drama, but several thrillers and comedies can also be seen.
UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova Declared Honorary Citizen of Sofia
UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova has been declared Honorary Citizen of Sofia.
Bokova was awarded honorary citizenship at a ceremony at the Sofia Municipality on Monday.
The event was attended by Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, Deputy Education Minister Boil Banov, and Elen Gerdzhikov, Chair of the Sofia Municipal Council.
Beatles tribute act The Bestbeat to play on December 27
BELGRADE - The Bestbeat, a Belgrade-based Beatles tribute band, will play a concert at Dom Omladine in Belgrade on December 27 in a bid to recreate the atmosphere of the Liverpool Fab Four's early performances.
Institute Francais Opens Cinema Hall In Sofia
The Bulgarian branch of Institute Francais opens a cinema hall in Sofia, at its premises on Slaveikov square.
The cinema hall there existed in the 1980's and has been recently renovated.
The programme will include French, Bulgarian and other foreign films. It is compiled by the A Plus Films distribution company, which has cinemas in Plovdiv, Turgovishte, Vratsa and Vidin.
International Book Fair Starts In Sofia On Tuesday
The 42-nd edition of the Sofia International Book Fair starts on Tuesday in the National Palace of Culture (NDK).
It will be on till December 14 and is organised by the Bulgarian Book Association, which celebrates its 20-th anniversary.
The Book Fair will present 200 exhibitors from Bulgaria, as well as Romania, Hungary, Iran, Serbia, Russia and Spain's Instituto Cervantes.
