The men's national volleyball team secured the most unlikely of qualifications to the knockout stages of the European Championship on Wednesday, earning the ticket to the last 16 of the tournament having conceded just one point less than Portugal in a story that seemed taken straight out of a Jules Verne book.
Celebrating the 15th anniversary of Bulgaria's accession to NATO and the Alliance's 70th anniversary, the traditional Ekiden relay marathon took place in central Sofia on Friday (6 September 2019). The popular annual event saw a record number of participants this year - 606 runners, organized in 101 teams.

Romania finished fourth in the final medal ranking of the Balkan Athletics Championships 2019 in Pravets, Bulgaria, on Tuesday, with a tally of 18 medals, 5 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze medals. Ukraine took the first place, 9-4-5, followed by Greece, 6-6-2, and Turkey, 6-3-7. In the men's events, Romania finished second, 4-3-2, behind Ukraine, 7-1-3, and ahead of Turkey, 3-1-5, etc.
Romania won seven medals - two gold, two silver and three bronze - on Monday, the first day of the Balkan Athletics Championships 2019 in Pravets, Bulgaria.
In the semifinals, our national women's volleyball team left Azerbaijan with no chance and won 3-0. In individual games - 25:12, 16 and 23.
Nasya Dimitrova scored the most points for success - 14. In the next phase of the championship Bulgaria will face the current world and European champion Serbia.
