Bulgaria Loses to Croatia at Opening of UEFA European U-17 Championship

The host nation Bulgaria lost at the opening of the UEFA European Under-17 Championship on Wednesday, suffering a 0-2 defeat to Croatia.

The match, which was played at the Beroe stadium in the city of Stara Zagora, was attended by 10 000 spectators and took place right after the official opening ceremony of the tournament.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov will attend the official opening of the UEFA European Under-17 Championship on Wednesday.

This was announced by Zhivko Todorov, the mayor of Stara Zagora, one of the four host cities of the tournament along with Burgas, Sliven and Sozopol.

The Bulgarian suffered a heavy defeat and could not offer a considerable resistance to Safarova throughout the match.

Bulgaria's Staniliya Stamenova has upheld her European champion's title in the 200 metres finals of the senior women's single canoe race.

Stamenova finished in 49.796 seconds, winning the gold medal in the race held in Racice in the Czech Republic on Sunday. She was the only one to stop the clock in less than 50 seconds.
