EU Migration Commissioner to Visit Bulgaria's Elhovo

European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Dimitris Avramopoulos, is to visit the Bulgarian town of Elhovo located close to the border with Turkey on Thursday.

Avramopoulos will inspect the measures applied by Bulgaria in guarding its borders and will assess Bulgarian efforts in managing the migrant flows.

Bulgaria Plans Deeper Army Involvement in Guarding of Borders

Bulgaria's Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova has proposed to use the Army more extensively to help police guard the country's borders.

The proposal will be enacted through changes in the Defence and Armed Forces Act which are being drafted at present, Bachvarova said on Wednesday after a meeting of the coalition government's newly-founded consultative Development Council.

Over Half of Bulgarians Aged 18+ Rely on Financial Help from Parents - Survey

Fifty-three percent of Bulgarians older than 18 years rely on financial support from their parents - a higher percentage compared with Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, a new survey has shown.

For Poland, the percentage is 31%, 33% for the Czech Republic and 42% for Slovakia, according to a survey conducted by companies of Profi Credit group in the four countries.

Bulgaria MPs Grant National Security Body Right to Process Passengers Flight Data

Bulgaria's Parliament has adopted on second reading legal changes allowing counter-intelligence and domestic security agency DANS to process passengers' reservation data in the country.

Under the amendments, which were first put forward by the government in September, a special unit in charge of handling the data, in compliance with a EU directive and the Europol Regulation.
