Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn on Friday visited a refugee reception center in the town of Sid.

Some 170 Bulgarian Truck Drivers Stuck at Serbian-Croatian Border

Around 170 Bulgarian TIR truck drivers are stuck between the Serbian and Croatian borders amid a row between the two countries over the ways to cope with the refugee influx.

The drivers are stuck in their trucks, with no food, water or access to toilets, according to reports of Bulgarian private TV station Nova TV.

Serbia and Croatia Maintain Border Blockade

After the dispute over the flow of the refugees escalated into a border dispute between the two countries, Croatia on Friday continued to block freight and some passenger traffic from Serbia while Belgrade still did not allow freight transport from Croatia to enter.

PM: Bulgaria Provides Reliable Border Guard Against Refugee Wave

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov assured on Friday that both the incumbent and the previous governments have guarded the country's borders reliably against the refugee influx.

According to him, this has led to redirection of the refugee route through Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Austria, Germany and Sweden.

Commissioner Hahn to Discuss Refugee Crisis in Europe on Serbia Visit

European Commissioner Johannes Hahn will visit Serbia on Friday to discuss the current refugee crisis in Europe.

Hahn, the Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, will meet members of the Serbian government including Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and Interior  Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic and will visit the Refugee Aid Centre in Sid.

The Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday sent a note to the Croatian embassy in Belgrade.

The note expresses "protest in the strongest terms" over "the measure of prohibition of entry to Croatia via border crossings for the holders of Serbian travel documents and vehicles with Serbian markings."

 

Austria "to send refugees back to Slovenia and Croatia"

Austria said it would send back refugees who enter the country from the Croatia and Slovenia, pointing out that "Europe needs a sustainable asylum system."

Minister of Internal Affairs of Austria Johanna Mikl-Leitner said that Croatia and Slovenia are "safe countries" and that migrants who pass through them without seeking asylum will be returned there.

Disturbance in Croatia-Serbia economic relations introduced with measures and counter-measures at the border "will disturb both already weak economies."

Croatian companies that conduct a significant share of their business activities in Serbia will suffer greater damages, President of the Union of Employers of Serbia Nebojsa Atanackovic said on Thursday.
