Greek police warns of online illegal betting scam

Greece?s Cyber Crime Unit on Thursday issued a warning to members of the public with regard to an online illegal betting scam.

According to the police, administrators of bogus profiles on social media were allegedly pledging huge earnings as well as refunds to users placing bets on various sports events, particularly soccer games.

Euro hits 2-week low on anxiety over Greek debt

The euro fell on Wednesday after the Greek government's parliamentary speaker said Greece will not make a repayment to the International Monetary Fund that falls due on June 5 if there is no deal with its creditors by then.

The euro extended its losses and hit a two-week low near $1.1092 at one point. It last traded at $1.1103, down 0.4 percent on the day. [Reuters]

Serbian water polo player suspended over drug use

The Water Polo Association of Serbia (VSS) has confirmed it was notified by FINA about Nikola Radjen's temporary suspension for use of illegal substances.

Radjen, a player of Olympiakos from Greece, tested positive for cocaine after the match between Serbia and Spain in Madrid on February 17 and FINA notified the VSS of his suspension on May 6.

Merkel, Hollande to meet with Tsipras in Riga

Greek PM Alexis Tsipras will be meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande, in Riga, Latvia, during the Summit.

Merkel and Hollande stated that negotiations with Greece must be sped up, during a meeting in Berlin on Tuesday, while the French President underlined that Greece’s place is in the Euro.

Euro zone to encourage Greece talks on Monday, deal not yet in sight

Euro zone finance ministers are likely to acknowledge on Monday an improvement in the structure and organisation of talks with Greece on funding for reforms, but a final agreement is not yet in sight, a senior euro zone official said on Friday.

"I do not expect a lengthy or contentious debate," the official said.

Merkel spoke to Tsipras 'several times' this week, spokeswoman says

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras spoke to each other on Wednesday, a spokeswoman for the German government said on Friday, without giving any further details.

"This week they were in contact several times, including on Wednesday," Christiane Wirtz said at a news conference in Berlin.
