The 2023 wildfire season in Europe was among the worst this century, according to a European Commission report published on Wednesday.
Last year, more than half a million (504,002) hectares, an area twice the size of Luxembourg, was scorched by wildfires, according to a report on Forest Fires in Europe, Middle East and North Africa 2023 by the Commission's Joint Research Centre.

Inflation climbed to 3.2% in March
The national inflation rate in Greece amounted to 3.2% in March climbing from 2.9% in February, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) reported on Wednesday.
ELSTAT's data confirm the rising inflation picture shown by Eurostat's statistics, according to which European Union-harmonized inflation rose in Greece to 3.4% in March, from 3.1% in February.

The migrants were believed to have reached the island in the Aegean Sea near Turkey on a dinghy, a coastguard official said. It was not immediately clear how many had been on board.
