According to NRC Handelsblad the Netherlands are faced with a real diplomatic headache: Turkish military personnel that serve in various positions in Europe, mostly at NATO, seek asylum on a massive scale, with the Netherlands being among the countries of choice. Athens toughens bailout stance on good data as Moscovici visits
Athens appeared to toughen its stance vis-a-vis the country's creditors on Tuesday after official figures indicated that the economy performed better than expected at the end of last year.
In comments at a media briefing, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said Greece was aiming to reach an agreement "without one euro more" in austerity measures.
Protesting farmers distribute cabbages outside Parliment
Greek farmers distributed cabbages for free in front of the Parliament in Athens Tuesday during a demonstration to protest against increases in their taxes and social security payments. Vangelis Boutas, a unionist representing farmers in central Greece, called on citizens to back their protest and oppose the government's ongoing austerity program.
Dijsselbloem: Review not complete before Feb. 20 EuroGroup
EuroGroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem stated that the review of the Greek bailout program will not have concluded before the February 20 EuroGroup, according to Reuters news agency. He underlined the grave significance of the IMF remaining on the Greek program, denying the current situation in Greece constituted an acute crisis.
