Bulgaria Transport Min Summons Greek Envoy as Border Blockade Continues

Greece's Ambassador to Bulgaria has been informed by the country's Transport Ministry of its concerns over the situation at the common border, officials say.

Sofia is now calling on Athens to secure a passage for transit trucks, with Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov having spoken to Greek counterpart Alexis Tsipras over the phone and urging him to "take measures".

Eurostat: Bulgaria's Unemployment Rate Was Below EU Average in December 2015

The latest figures of Eurostat released on Tuesday show that Bulgaria's unemployment rate was below the EU average in the last month of 2015.

In December last year, Bulgaria registered an unemployment rate of 8.8 %, with the EU average being 9 %.

Bulgaria's unemployment rate retained its level from November 2015, decreasing by 1.4 % compared to the same month in 2014.

Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei has recreated the heartbreaking image of the drowned 3-year-old Syrian child, Alan Kurdi, by staging a photo of himself lying face down on a beach on Lesvos island, Greece.

Ai Weiwei closed his eyes and lay face down on a pebbled beach imitating the lifeless body of Alan who lost his life while trying to reach Greece with his family.

Greece has the highest unemployment rate in Europe

The unemployment rate in the euro zone and EU fell in December for the 15th month running to its lowest level in a little more than four years, according to data published by European statistics agency Eurostat.

In December 2015, unemployment rate in euro zone fell to 10.4%, while unemployment rate in EU fell to 9%.

Xydakis: Greece and Germany should work together to tackle refugee crisis!

Alternate Foreign Minister Nikos Xydakis told Greece’s radio station, Praktorio 104.9, that Greece and Germany should partner together to confront the problems caused by the refugee crisis. “Germany has saved and received people regardless of what some extreme circles inside the country say and Germany is Greece’s ally and partner, they have a relation,” said Xydakis.
