Law suits against Filis regarding statements negating Pontic Genocide

Two lawsuits were filed against Greek Education Minister Nikos Filis on Monday by the Supreme Court Prosecutor’s office. These were filed in connection with controversial comments he made negating the occurence of the 1914-23 genocide of Black Sea Pontic Greeks.

Greek Parliament’s Economic Affairs Committee approved the draft bill on the 13 prior actions that Greece’s lenders (EC, ECB, ESM, IMF) had asked for. Following the majority approval of the bill in principle, it passed through Greek Parliament for a plenary debate on Tuesday. The voting of the bill is to take place on Tuesday night after the 10-hour debate is completed.

EU, UNHCR Take Action to Increase Greece's Asylum Reception Capacity

The European Commission and the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR have launched a scheme to provide 20,000 additional reception places for asylum seekers and relocation candidates in Greece, the Commission said on Monday.

The scheme will be funded through rent subsidies in the private sector and host family programmes with the Commission providing EUR 80 M from the 2016 EU budget.

Greece President Visiting Bulgaria on Monday, Tuesday

Greek President Propkopis Pavopoulos is on a two-day visit to Bulgaria to meet state officials and businesses.

On Monday he is to have a closed-doors meeting with Bulgarian counterpart Rosen Plevneliev and will later talk with Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Parliament Speaker Tsetska Tsacheva, the Bulgarian Presidency's press office has said.
