Report Urges Permanent US Military Presence in Balkans
The report entitled 'Balkans Forward: A New US Strategy for the Region', published by the Atlantic Council on Tuesday, calls for a permanent American military presence in the Balkans, a "historic rapproachment" between the US and Serbia, and for the US to regain its reputation as an "honest broker".
Macedonia Parks Language Law to Focus on EU Priorities
Macedonia has delayed adoption of a new language law, sought by the ethnic Albanian community, but it will be back on parliament's agenda before the New Year holidays, said Artan Grubi, the chair of the parliamentary committee in charge of the law, after postponing a session of the committee, set for this week.
Extension of use of the Albanian language in FYROM passed in principle by the House
The parliament of Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) voted in principle the bill to expand the use of the Albanian language.
In favour of the bill voted 66 MPs (coming from the ruling Social Democratic Union/SDSM of Zoran Zaev and Ali Ahmeti’s DUI) while 41 MPs voted against (coming from VMRO-DPMNE’s main opposition party, Nikola Gruevski).
Migrants plan to walk to border in protest march
Migrants living in Greece who want to travel on to other countries, many to join their families, are intensifying their protests.
A group of around 100 refugees, mostly Iraqis and Syrians, traveled to Thessaloniki from Athens on Wednesday with the intent of marching to Greece's border with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
