Macedonia allows all 1,500 migrants at border to enter from Greece

More than 1,500 mostly Syrian refugees, trapped in a no-man's land for three days, entered Macedonia from Greece on Aug. 22, after police allowed them to pass despite earlier trying to hold back the crowd using stun grenades.

Macedonia suddenly allowed more than 1,500 migrants, most of them fleeing the conflict in Syria, to cross from northern Greeece late on Saturday after they spent more than three days in a no man's land between the two countries, newswires reported.

The government of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (fYRoM), north of the Greek province of Macedonia, is still trying to stem the flow of thousands of migrants on its borders with Greece. The desperate 3rd country national are attempting pass through the small country and move onto northern European nations.

Thousands of rain-soaked migrants, including many women and children, were trapped on Aug. 22 on the border between Greece and Macedonia, as Macedonian police blocked them from entering the country and heading north toward the European Union.
                   

Hundreds Break Through Police Line Into Macedonia

Police used stun grenades in attempt to stop the crowd pass the barbed wire but could not stop people running into fields across the border.It is unclear if people were injured in the chaos and how many escaped from the zone guarded by police.

EU Assistance in Macedonia Migrant Issue 'Largely Symbolic'

The EU has only provided symbolic assistance to Macedonia as the country is dealing with a surging migrant influx, Macedonian FM Nikola Poposki has said.

Macedonia Police Fires Tear Gas at Refugees

Macedonian police fired tear gas at crowds of refugees on the Greek border on Friday, to deter them from trying to enter the country. Video footage showed at least several refugees were injured.

The previous day the Macedonian government declared a state of emergency on its southern and northern border following an unprecedented influx of refugees.

The migrants are stranded there and attempting to cross into Macedonia.

Serbians advised to stay away from Gevgelija border crossing

The Serbian Foreign Ministry has said it is "not recommending" that Serbians travel via the Gevgelija/Idomeni border crossing between Macedonia and Greece.

This comes as several thousand refugees from the Middle East, stranded at this railroad crossings, on Friday clashed with Macedonian police and soldiers.
