Macedonia Declares Crisis on Border Over Refugees
Macedonia said it was deploying troops on the border with Greece, in a last-ditch move to stem to flow of refugees into and across the country.
The aim was to enhance control of the border area, Ivo Kotevski, spokesperson of the Ministry for Interior, explained on Thursday.

With the UN calculating that 50,000 migrants — legitimate refugees and illegal immigrants — entering Greece in July 2015 alone, compared with 47,000 in all of 2014, smugglers are finding new and lucrative ways of trafficking people into the crisis-plagued country — presumably a first stop until more affluent “pastures” of northern Europe are reached.

About 1,000 migrants from the Middle East were early on Friday waiting in Gevgelija to continue their journey to Serbia, and then to the EU.
Several hundred of them, mostly refugees from Syria, were spending the night next to the railway tracks at the rail station in this town near the Macedonia-Greece border.
