Macedonian PM Rallies Supporters With Defiant Speech

Thousands of supporters of the ruling VMRO DPMNE party rallied in front of parliament to hear a defiant speech from the Prime Minister, Nikola Gruevski.

The rally held under the motto "For a Strong Macedonia" aimed to show that many people still back Gruevski amid growing calls for his resignation.

Macedonia could become "a new arena for the clash between the West and Russia," a Moscow-based daily writes on Monday.

According to the Kommersant paper, "both sides are now, as they did once in Ukraine," becoming more actively involved in the Macedonian crisis.

Skopje: Opposition leader, MEP address anti-government rally

Tens of thousands of people attended an anti-government protest in Skopje on Sunday held under the motto "Citizens for Macedonia."

AFP reports that more than 20,000 people marched from the building of the government of Macedonia to the national assembly, while some reports mention a figure of 40,000.

Conflict "cannot spread" from Macedonia - official

President of the Coordinating Body for Presevo, Medvedja and Bujanovac Zoran Stankovic says it is "not possible" for the conflict in Macedonia "to spill over."

"Our information shows it is not possible for a spillover to occur of the conflict in Macedonia to the territory of Serbia," he told TV Pink on Monday morning.

Macedonia Opposition Establishes Protest Tent Camp

The protesters said they would not leave the tent camp until the resignation of Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, who they blame for installing an authoritarian regime in Macedonia, even though the premier's allies plan to stage a counter-demonstration on Monday.

Pro-Government Protest to Take Place in Macedonia

The Macedonian governing party VMRO-DPMNE is set on organizing a counter-protest at 8 pm in front of the Parliament building. The organizers claim that Macedonia is currently facing '' a directed attack aiming at destabilization'' of the country.
