World Bank green-lights budget support loan of 750 mln euros for Romania

The Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank Group has green-lighted a budget support loan of 750 million euros to Romania, targeting the reform to strengthen public debt management, increase in quality of public expenditures, improvement in performance of state companies and the functioning of capital, real estate and energy markets.

Romania Keeps Inflation Under Control

Annual inflation in Romania rose to 1.21 per cent in April, up from the unprecedentedly low figure of 1.04 per cent recorded in March, the National Statistics Board, INS, said on Monday.

In spite of the increase, inflation remains below the central bank’s 1.5-3.5 per cent target.

More Smuggled Cigarettes Sold in Romania

The percentage of cigarettes on sale in Romania that have been smuggled into the country rose slightly to 15.8 per cent in March, up 0.1 percentage point compared to the previous month, market sources said.

Most smuggled cigarettes come from neighboring Moldova and Ukraine, according to a report from Novel Research polling company.
