President Appeals for 'New Start' in Romania

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday will call for a major re-write of the country's complex laws in an address to the country's parliament.

A document that BIRN has obtained quotes the President as saying: "This has to be the moment for a new beginning. Parliament must be at the heart of simplifying and rationalising legislation, which now is too complex.

Turkey to overhaul its visa policy to align with EU acquis

A senior government official has signaled a change in Turkey's long-standing visa policy that envisages the removal of visas with as many countries as possible in a bid to align with the EU's policy, as part of ongoing talks over visa liberalization for Turkish citizens starting from late 2016.

Pentagon Sending Military Hardware to Romania, Bulgaria This Month

The Pentagon has announced that about 70 pieces of U.S. military equipment will arrive in Romania from Germany on Tuesday to support Operation Atlantic Resolve.

Other equipment will arrive in Bulgaria and Lithuania later this month, a Pentagon spokesman annonunced on Monday, according to a news release posted on the U.S. Defense Department website.

Romania's parliament on Tuesday approved the new government of Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos by 389 votes in favour to 115 against.

"We want to act efficiently and achieve good results, so that people regain confidence in public policies. Parliament will have a reliable partner in the government," Ciolos told MPs after the vote.
