One in three Greeks live in poverty or social exclusion, Eurostat shows

One in three Greeks live in conditions of poverty social exclusion, compared to an average of one in four citizens in European Union countries, according to data for 2016 that the EU's statistics service Eurostat made public on Monday.

Specifically, 35.5 percent of the Greek population (3.8 million people) were living in social exclusion last year compared to 28.1 percent in 2008.

Over 400 Groups of Migrants Try to Cross Romania's Borders Illegally

The Border Police have detected about 2,800 foreign citizens who tried to cross Romania's borders illegally in the first seven months of the year. Most of them, namely around 1,500, tried to enter the country, Romania-Insider writes.

The migrants were organized in 416 groups, according to information from the Border Police.

Europe Migrant Crisis: EU Court Rejects Quota Challenge

The EU's top court has rejected a challenge by Hungary and Slovakia to a migrant relocation deal drawn up at the height of the crisis in 2015, reported BBC. 

The European Court of Justice overruled their objections to the compulsory fixed-quota scheme.

Hungary has not accepted a single asylum seeker under the scheme since it was introduced two years ago.

Romania is Planning to Ban Gay Marriage by Referendum

The ruling Social Democratic Party in Romania intends to organize a referendum this autumn to limit the constitutional definition of the family. This would effectively exclude the possibility of legalizing same-sex marriages, party leader Liviu Dragnea said, quoted by Reuters.
