Lovefest nominated for best medium-sized European festival

VRNJACKA BANJA, - Lovefest, Serbia's biggest festival of love that takes place in the spa town of Vrnjacka Banja, central Serbia, has been nominated for the best medium-sized European festival, the title granted by the European Festival Awards (EFA).

Lovefest found itself among 70 popular events from 20 countries.

Jazz Musicians To Play At Sofia's Brick Roads Music Festival

Jazz musicians from around South Eastern Europe and elsewhere on the continent will be in the Bulgarian capital city for the Brick Roads Sofia Music Festival on October 10 and 11 2014.

The first night of the programme sees the Vasil Hadzimanov Band from Serbia performing at 7pm, followed by Greece's Kostas Theodorou "Lost Anthropology" at 9pm.

Kids Fest in Serbia October 13-19

BELGRADE - Children's film festival Kids Fest will be held in cinemas in over 30 cities across Serbia from October 13-19.

The 10th Kids Fest will shows 14 premiers, and this year's animated, feature and documentary films are arriving from the U.S., France, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Croatia.

Standing ovations for Mikhalkov at Sava Center

BELGRADE - The Sava Center's Grand Hall was filled to capacity on Friday evening for the world premiere of 'Sunstroke', a film by renowned Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov.

Among the celebrities seen on the red carpet outside the Sava Center, decorated on this occasion with scenes from the movie, was Serbian film director Emir Kusturica.

Serbia beaten in world championship quarterfinals

ISTANBUL - Serbia was defeated 62-61 (18-13 6-17 17-10 21-21) by Turkey in a dramatic quarterfinal match of the women's basketball world championship in Istanbul on Friday.

Turkey will meet Spain in the semifinals on Saturday. Spain bested China 71-55 (20-9 15-8 21-18 15-20) earlier on Friday.

OSCE mission awarded for promoting right to information

BELGRADE - Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia Peter Burkhard has received an award for the mission's special contribution to promoting the right of access to information of public significance, which was presented by Serbia's Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection Rodoljub Sabic.

Vucic talks films and Serbia-Russia relations with Mikhalkov

BELGRADE - Serbia's Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic met on Thursday with Russian film director Nikita Mikhalkov and discussed the director's achievements in film, premiere of his latest film in Belgrade and relations between Serbia and Russia.

Mikhalkov is in Belgrade for the world premiere of his film Sunstroke.

Library opens at Azerbaijani Culture Center

BELGRADE - A ceremony marking the opening of a library at the Azerbaijani Culture Center in Belgrade was held on Wednesday bringing together Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Elchin Afandiyev, members of the parliamentary friendship group with Azerbaijan and representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Information.

EU welcomes Belgrade Pride Parade

BRUSSELS - EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele welcomed on Sunday the Belgrade Pride Parade and condemned the threats to the LGBT population coming from right-wing organisations.

The EU commends Serbia's security forces, who protected the participants of the Parade, a statement from Fuele's office reads.

Legacy of Milos Crnjanski exhibition opens in Paris

BELGRADE - An exhibition of the Legacy of Milos Crnjanski of the Serbian National Library opened at the Serbian Cultural Centre in Paris on Wednesday, before a large crowd, the library has stated.

The exhibition is the first one after the redecoration of the centre, whose library will bear the name of Milos Crnjanski, a famous Serbian and writer.

Belgrade Philharmonic to restore Tesla's bust to Cleveland

BELGRADE - The Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra will allocate a part of the revenues from the forthcoming concert in the Severance Hall, Cleveland, as a contribution to the procurement of a new bronze bust of Nikola Tesla, the Philharmonic Orchestra announced on Monday.
