21st European Film Festival Palic to kick off on Saturday

BELGRADE – The 21st edition of the European Film Festival Palic will open Saturday evening by the screening of White God by Hungarian director Kornel Mundruczo, winner of the Un Certain Regard prize at Cannes this year.

BELGRADE/KARLOVY VARY - Young Serbian director Ivan Ikic won the special recognition at the 49th Film Festival in Karlovy Vary for his debut film 'Varvari' (Barbarians).

The recognition was delivered to Ikic within the East of the West competition programme.

Nis youth philharmonic orchestra wins gold medal

NIS - The Youth Philharmonic Orchestra Naissus from Nis won the gold medal at the world festival in Bratislava in the special category up to 35 years, orchestra conductor Zoran Andric said on Sunday.

The festival ended in the capital of Slovakia late on Saturday and it featured performances of over 500 participants from three continents in various categories.

9th Vrnjci International Classical Music Festival in July

VRNJACKA BANJA - The 9th Vrnjci International Classical Music Festival will take place in the Culture castle in Vrnjacka Banja from July 20 to 30.

The festival will gather participants from Norway, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Great Britain, Germany and Serbia. The art director of the festival is Uros Dojcinovic.

RATEL expects digitalization to be completed by end of 2014

BELGRADE - Director of Serbia's Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communication and Postal Services (RATEL) Milan Jankovic said Wednesday that this regulatory body expects the digitalization process in Serbia to be completed by year-end, before the official deadline set to mid 2015.

Bosnia Marks World War One Centennial

The concert by the Vienna Philharmonic in the recently re-opened Vijecnica, the historic Sarajevo City Hall, was the central event to mark the centenary of the killing of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by Bosnian Serb Gavrilo Princip on June 28, 1914.

Few hundred people could follow the the concert in a plateau on the other side of the river of Miljacka.

BELGRADE - British rocker Billy Idol delivered a rousing performance at Kalemegdan late Thursday in front of around 18,000 people at the 2014 Belgrade Calling festival.

With his sideman Steve Stevens, Idol played a selection of his classic hits.
