Djokovic claims fifth Beijing title

BEIJING - World No. 1 Novak Djokovic defended his China Open crown after crushing the Czech Republic's Tomas Berdych 6-0, 6-2 in the title match on Sunday.

Serbia's best tennis player claimed his fifth Beijing title in a little over one hour leaving Berdych no chance to bounce back.

Ivanovic halted in China Open semi-finals

BEIJING - Serbia's Ana Ivanovic failed to reach the final of the WTA tournament in Beijing, after losing to Russia's Maria Sharapova 6-0, 6-4 on Saturday.

In the title match, Sharapova will face Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic, who defeated Australia's Sam Stosur in the first semi-final earlier today.

Serbia loses to China

ISTANBUL - Serbia lost the classification 5-8 match of the Basketball World Championship for Women in Istanbul to China 85-69 (32-22, 11-14, 21-20, 21-13) on Saturday.

The Serbians were unable to recover from the yesterday's quarter-final loss by one point (62-61) in the game against Turkey, which brought them within reach of a great surprise and advancement to the top four teams.

BEIJING - World No. 1 Novak Djokovic of Serbia advanced to the final of China Open after defeating Briton Andy Murray 6-3, 6-4 early on Saturday in Beijing.

Serbia beaten in world championship quarterfinals

ISTANBUL - Serbia was defeated 62-61 (18-13 6-17 17-10 21-21) by Turkey in a dramatic quarterfinal match of the women's basketball world championship in Istanbul on Friday.

Turkey will meet Spain in the semifinals on Saturday. Spain bested China 71-55 (20-9 15-8 21-18 15-20) earlier on Friday.

BEIJING - Serbia's Viktor Troicki did not make it to the quarterfinal at the ATP tournament in Beijing after he was outplayed by Czech Tomas Berdych 6-3, 6-4 on Thursday.

This year's Beijing defending champion is world No. 1 Novak Djokovic of Serbia, who reached the quarterfinal on Wednesday beating Canadian Vasek Pospisil 6-3, 7-5.

BEIJING - Serbia's Novak Djokovic and Filip Krajinovic reached the doubles quarterfinal at the ATP tournament in Beijing after the withdrawal of Latvian Ernest Gulbis and Polish Marcin Matkowski in the first round on Thursday.

Djokovic/Krajinovic are next to take on Italian-Argentinean pair Fabio Fognini/Leonardo Mayer.

Serbia kicks off stage 2 of WC with win against Holland

VERONA - Serbia defeated Holland 3-0 (25-22 25-23 25-23) at the start of stage two of the women's volleyball world championship in Verona on Wednesday.

This was the 5th victory at the tournament for the team led by coach Zoran Terzic, with the only loss coming from the Olympic champions, Brazil, in the first stage.

Jankovic defeated in Beijing opener, Ivanovic moves on

BEIJING - Serbia's tennis player Jelena Jankovic did not make it to the second round of the WTA tournament in Beijing as she was bested by Alize Cornet of France 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 on Monday.

This was the first win of the French player in their head-to-heads (1-3).

Earlier on Monday, Serbia's Ana Ivanovic breezed past Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 6-2, 6-1 in only 72 minutes.

Djokovic fixed on ATP rankings top

LONDON - Serbia's tennis player Novak Djokovic is still world No. 1 on the latest ATP list released on Monday with a total of 12,150 points followed by Spain's Rafael Nadal with 8,665 and Switzerland's Roger Federer with 8,170 points.
